Anthony Welsh, the fine upstanding University of Texas fan pictured above with his infant son riding on the tank of his Suzuki Hayabusa, was
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
on an outstanding warrant for
some other
traffic offense. He remains unremorseful.
Welsh was spotted riding his Suzuki GSX-1300R Hayabusa— !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with a 1299 cc, 173 hp motor and capable of a limited top speed of 186 mph—in flip flops, University of Texas shorts, technical fabric workout tank top, and backwards University of Texas hat. The baby, sandwiched between the Hayabusa’s gas tank and Welsh’s stomach, appears to be wearing a red onesie.
The person who took this photo was so upset that someone would ride around with a baby on the gas tank of a motorcycle that they did not contact any law enforcement agency, but they did post it on Facebook. Many people commented, including, eventually, Welsh himself:
“I seen all of your post an got all your threats screen shot so keep talking shit about me an will see how that works for you an the one who took this picture it would be in your best interest to take it off...!”
Apparently he also argued on Facebook that it was fine to give a baby a ride on the gas tank of a Suzuki Hayabusa, because he stayed close to home when he took his son for a ride. I’m sure he did it in equally articulate fashion.
Welsh bonded out of jail on the unrelated traffic warrant before he was charged by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office with endangering a child, but then !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the new charge. He has since posted bond for that charge as well.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ,
No child under five (5) years old shall be a passenger on a motorcycle and any passenger that does ride as a second person on the motorcycle must be seated in a secured seat to the back of the motorcycle with secure hand grips and two foot pegs.

How does a turd like this even get the money to post bond? I blame parents.

C’mon Florida you know you can top this.

Not only that, but post bond twice in one week .

My father used to drive me around on his Honda Scramblet in front of him when I was 3. It’s a wonder any of us survived the 1970s

Was he also fined for riding a motorcycle in flip flops, and with what appears to be a bald, and flat rear tire.

God damn!
Take that kid away. I don’t say that lightly, I have 2 at home and no parent is perfect. TAKE THAT KID AWAY. How do you not call the cops on that and just post it to facebook?!

Eventually the sheriff’s office was able to interview 2 eye witnesses which led to the child endangerment charge.

Wait, what? Secure hand grips? Lots of bikes with a passenger pillion have neither of these things.
Hell, my touring motorcycle doesn’t have either of these. Even when I attach the passenger backrest, it’s missing the “secure hand grips”
—-pause before posting—-
I started checking out photos of touring bikes, and mine
did in fact have a strap across the stick seat
. I no longer have that seat. However, I did remove it once I realized you had to remove the saddle bag, saddle bag bracket, and the strap in order to service the battery. My state (VA) does not require “hand grips” and
I assume that strap was there for states that do.
Can we also talk about the helmet law for passenger under the age of 21?

Apparently there was a law passed in Texas a while back in response to a girl being killed riding on the back of a motorcycle that swerved and she was thrown off. The law caused somewhat of a kerfuffle.

I have the same story. SL175 was my first taste.

He should have strapped the baby down with a cargo net

My bike is older than that. Must be an existing law in some other state, then.
Sounds like they are covering their ass so they can now blame the dead passengers for not holding on.
“We gave you a handle, what else do you want?”
Funny thing is, there is no helmet law. Explain that shit.

I read it more as a “we must prevent this sort of tragedy from happening again” type law, rather than a CYA law, since they named it after the girl who died.
The fight against helmet laws continues to baffle me.

The fight against helmet laws continues to baffle me.
Especially when the state has other safety laws like grab straps or seat belts.
Do you care about people dying on your highways or not?

As far as I know, the only rationale for repealing helmet laws is,
“I only look cool on my bike without a helmet, and the gubmint can’t take away my freedom.”
That’s stupid, of course. Because if a non-helmet-wearing person gets in a crash and ends up in the hospital, there’s a cost to society in the form of medical bills. But here we are.

Texas actually does have a helmet requirement...that you are exempt from if you’ve taken the MSF course...which you are now required to take if you want a M endorsement in Texas....Yeah my state’s fucked up.

This baffles me.
Shit, Dad gave me a ride on his quad when I was five, but he took it easy(as in like 15mph max IIRC) and made damn sure I held on tight.
This is just idiotic.

And helmets for any rider no matter how old?
![]() 06/03/2017 at 09:40 |

There is no way a child that young would stay in place by himself, and I wouldn’t want to risk something like that, even around the block.
But, I have both my son or my daughter driving in my mustang for about 200-300 yards in my neighborhood while they are sitting in my lap. I get looks from people. But...
One of my favorite memories was driving a car with my dad. So I will forward that memory on to my kids.
![]() 06/03/2017 at 09:54 |

Yup, and it makes no sense to boot. If a passenger is not holding on to the rider they have no business on the back of a motorcycle.
My 919 has a hand rail on the back, but you don’t hold on back there. You wrap your arms around my waist and lean in the corners with me.
![]() 06/03/2017 at 10:10 |

Well, he does have a stretched swing arm, so longer wheelbase = more stable? Yay?

Since the “Hur dur Texas is stupid this is because of Trump” comments are so prevalent on the FP story, I’ll say this here:
The amount of rage going on here in Houston over this story (it broke a few days ago) is super high. This guy is getting torn apart in the public’s eyes, and rightfully so.

They should release him, arrest him again, try him, and convict him, for that awful fucking extended swingarm.
